Dat het zondagavond vaak super gezellig is in de Paperlate-studio bleek zondag 15 september opnieuw.
Immers, Paperlate Classic Rock Radio met André Steijns had in zijn bekende en opvallende reeks "Classic Rock Specials" deze keer, niet minder dan Focus met Thijs van Leer & Jan Dumee op bezoek.
Dit na aanleiding van de nieuwe Focus-CD: Focus-8. Wie kent Focus niet van de wereldhits zoals Hocus Pocus, Sylvia en House of the King?
Vlak voor hun grote wereldtournee wist Focus toch nog tijd vrij te maken om Bergen op Zoom te bezoeken. Dit dankzij de hulp en medewerking van Classic Rock Productions & Huberts Slaapcomfort.
Na een oproep in Paperlate dat ook luisteraars hartelijk welkom waren moest al snel aan de noodrem worden getrokken. Paperlate was al snel 'uitverkocht'.
In een bijzonder gemoedelijke sfeer met een enthousiast publiek rolden de interviews voorbij.
De verrassing bracht dat Focus bereid was een aantal songs live ten gehore te brengen. Niet de hits maar vooral de improvisaties, werden warm ontvangen, vooral met respect voor het enorme vakmanschap van Thijs van Leer en Jan Dumee.
Dat ook Focus het prima naar zijn zin had, bleek al snel. Na de uitzending werd er zelfs vrolijk door de band doorgespeeld. Voor iedereen was het al snel duidelijk: Focus is helemaal terug van weggeweest.
André Steijns kan dat ook met voldoening terugkijken op deze succesvolle avond.
De volgende "Classic Rock Special" wil André nog niet verklappen. "Hou de website maar in de gaten ...." zei André lachend.

Paperlate
Classic Rock Radio, presented by Andre Steijns, welcomed no one less than
Focus front man Thijs van Leer & Jan Dumee. Occasion: the
promotion of the new Focus album: Focus-8. Who hasn’t heard of Focus and
their world famous hits, such as Hocus Pocus, Sylvia and House of The King?
Just
before their big world tour, Focus found some time to visit the studios in
Bergen op Zoom. Shortly after we announced that listeners were more than
welcome to witness this event live in the studios, we had to slam on the
brakes. Due to heavy demand we were unable to let in any more people:
Paperlate was ‘sold out’!
In
an extraordinary atmosphere with an ecstatic public, time flew by and
before we knew it, the interviews were over. It came as a big surprise to
all of us that Focus started to play a few tracks live! As well as some
hits, they also played some improvised music during the program, which of
course was welcomed with open arms. It needs to be said that we have great
respect for the professionalism Thijs van Leer and Jan Dumee, showed us
that night and let us hear.
Also
Focus enjoyed the event very much as they kept on playing till far after
the radio broadcast was over. It was obvious to everyone very quickly…Focus
has come back completely!!!

Steijns can look back with satisfaction on yet another successful evening.
What the next Classic Rock Special will bring is something Andre Steijns
won’t reveal yet, but with a grin on his face, he told us to keep an eye
on the webpage…
