WHAT IS PAPERLATE?

PAPERLATE is a radioshow dedicated to progressive rock. PAPERLATE also pays attention to progressive metal and melodic rock, sometimes even new age and folk-rock are coming round the edge. PAPERLATE is transmitted by ZuidWestFM. We are trying to get the attention from the listeners by playing some familiar music from the golden period of progressive rock and then we take the listeners on an adventure by playing obscure music from the past and new releases from today’s progrock-scene.

We may start with a hit-recording from ELP, Marillion, Yes or Genesis and then we swtich to a new release by Spock’s Beard, White Willow or Abraxas, then we take our listeners back in time to an obscure album by Gryphon or Fruup and after that we take our listeners to other continents by playing music from Cast or Gerard. Now and then we also include interviews or live-sessions in the studio. Just take a look at a few of our play-lists and you know what we mean.

WHAT IS ZuidWestFM?

ZuidWestFM is a local radio-station, situated in Bergen op Zoom, Nederland. Bergen op Zoom is an ancient city, visited by many tourists in the southern part of Nederland, between Rotterdam and Antwerpen, just a few miles from the Belgium border. ZuidWestFM can be received in stereo by the residents from Bergen op Zoom and some villages in the neighboorhood on cable-channel 89.9, people living further away and tourists on the many camping-places can listen in mono to FM-channel 105.8. Besides that ZuidWestTelevision is transmitting the signal from ZuidWestFM as background music for the news and weather pages. ZuidWestFM has a listener-range from more than 100.000 people. A recent investigation showed that on Sunday-evening the station has more listeners than on any other evening. Between 8.000 and 10.000 people tune in on Sunday-evening. HISTORY PAPERLATE 

is presented by André Steijns, born in 1957 and a prog-rock fan from the time that the Nice hit the charts with "America". In the seventies André was working as a D.J. for drive-in shows and clubs. He also stood on the side-line by the free-radio stations Mi Amigo and Delmare but his only actual involvment was recoding some non-stop night shows. In the early nineties André started making programs for the small illigal local radio-station "Klaver Vier" at Steenbergen. This station has now legal status and is called "Stadsradio Steenbergen". André made a several shows for this station. In this period he interviewed legendary Dutch musicians like Harry Muskee (Cuby & the Blizzards) , Frank Kraayeveld (Bintangs) and singer-songwriter Dimitri van Toren (take a listening to his music!). He also started a radio-show dedicated to prog-rock: "Vuurwerk". This show was transmitted 100 times on Klaver Vier and included live-prefomances by Sinister Street, Lemon Tree and some other Dutch bands, also transmitted were interviews with Mr. So & So, Jump, Marathon, Everon and other international bands. After 100 shows André switched to BRTO-Radio, this station had a larger range of listers and a professional studio, at least afer the moving to the new studio in 1997. Besides that André got assistence from a team of professional technicians. This gave him the possibility to produce more and better studio-preformances and recordings and transmissions from different locations. The name "Vuurwerk"made place for "Paperlate"for legal reasons when André switched to BRTO-Radio. All the listeners from "Vuurwerk"were able to receive the strong BRTO FM-signal. In 2011 BRTO changed into ZuidWestFM

CALLS

Everybody who visited PAPERLATE or who was interviewed in one way or another recorded at least one PAPERLATE/BRTO jingle or station call. Other artists who send up promotional material also included jingles in the packages. So when you’re listening to Paperlate you can hear Fish thanking the guys from Paperlate for playing his music so often or Daevid Allen shouting that PAPERLATE takes him to Babylon. CONTACTS PAPERLATE has contacts with major record compagnies like Polydor, Dureco and Roadrunner and a lot of international labels specialized in progressive rock such as Musea, Verglas and Angular. We also have contacts with concert-promotors and editors from magazines as IO-pages, Background, Acid Dragon and Wonderous Stories .Further we have contacts with various fanclubs and other radio-shows such as "Discopolis" on Radio Espana National presented by Jose Miguel Lopez. All these people send us promotional c.d.’s , magazines and useful information, this makes it possible to make an attractive show every week.
