zondag 24 november 2002: THE GATHERING
Back
in 1992 the Dutch band The Gathering released their first album:
‘Always…’ has been built upon the increasingly popular
death metal, but has a distinguished sound. The CD was received
well in The Netherlands and beyond and the band has been asked
to play live at a few festivals. Especially Anneke van
Giersbergen’s voice makes the music more accessible to a wider
public. The single Strange Machines even made its way into the
Top 40 and the CD Mandylion was in the Mega Top 100 for months.
Over the years, the sound has become a lot less heavy and more
pop orientated. The Gathering played at Pinkpop and went on a
tour to the US, UK and Mexico.
Within the next few weeks, the new CD Black Light District will be released. In Paperlate, we will review their latest CD Aozora and there will be an interview with Anneke van Giersbergen.

Mother’s Creation originated from Metropolis, a band which played a live session for Paperlate back in 1999. This band has been formed around the Rompaey Brothers from Bergen op Zoom. The musical background from the members of the band is completely different, which gives the music a surprising character. When the band played the title track of the album The Wizard at the TAMA Drummer’s Award at Paradiso in Amsterdam in 1999, they won the first prize. Shortly after that, drummer Ruben van Rompaey wins the famous Erasmus Jazz Prize in Rotterdam. The style can be described as Progressive Fusion with eastern influences.
