THE HISTORY OF THE OWN DELIGHT KENNEL

The history of the Own Delight kennel starts a long time ago. My parents Annegien en Freek got there first dog in 1954. There first Sheltie arrived in 1964. But only in 1971 they got more serious involved in dogs. We bought our Am. Cocker Spaniel , Snowy. He was a very dominant dog . I started obedience training with Snowy when I was thirteen years. In 1976 I became Dutch Obedience Champion with Snowy. At the training we met people who showed and bred Am. Cockers. This was the start of our family in the dogworld. We started showing the Cockers. They got several CC's. We had 3 Am. Cockers and they became the first Am. Cockers in Holland with obediencecertificates and gundogcertificates.

The first Shelties we had, were not suitable for showing. My mother trained obedience with them but they were rather shy. At our holliday in England, in 1973, we visited the Exford Kennel . They had a wonderful extravert blue dog, Sky Diver of Exford. Diver was a very good obediencedog and a lovely showdog. Diver is the foundationdog of the Own Delight's Shelties. We bought a bitch from Dilhorne/Shelert lines and in 1976 we started breeding. We bred on a modest scale. We bred a litter when we had the intention to keep a puppy. That is why the interval between the generations is rather big . All our dogs live in the house. They live with us untill they die of old age. Over the last thirty years there have been times that we could not show because we only had old dogs. That is the way we want to live with our dogs.
