RADAR RECORDS 1982/1984

The Radar Records story ,or the Eric Matthew history lesson,begins with his partner Joe Tucci. He and a group of his friends form a band to play weddings & bar mitzvah's in the New York area. The band is a success and along with his parner Gary Turnier,they make a demo, Joe uses ERIC MATTHEW as a showbiz name. They catch the of SAM Records,a small New York lable,headed by Sam Weiss,and a staple in the indepent music scene. They get signed,release a couple of singles and an lp,but SAM Records is now distributed by the giant CBS Records. The GARY'S GANG records are a hugh success. Eric now starts to produce an array of artists for the New York club scene. He produces Sharon Redd for Prelude, Sinnamon for Becket... They all are hugh hits. Joe decides it's timeto form his own label, thus RADAR Records is born. What better way to start the label than with a new Gary's Gang record,"Knock Me Out",a sweet dance groove with a typical Gary's Gang sound,sweet harmonies and a great hook. RADAR Records and company get lucky with the next release TONY LEE "Reach Up",which quickly becomes the club anthem in 1982. We also see RADAR's venture into rap music. In 1984 break dancing was a hugh fad and Key-Matic's "Breakin' In Space" was a hugh hit on WBLS,a New York radio station.....
